Pokhara to Kathmandu by Private Car

The eastbound run from Pokhara to Kathmandu is the same 200 kilometer river road in reverse, and having your own car matters most on this leg. Tourist buses leave the lakeside at 7:30 sharp whether you slept well or not. A private car leaves when you close your bag.

Morning light on the Annapurnas is a fine send off, and the road then drops to follow the Marsyangdi and Trishuli rivers east. Drivers who work this route daily know where the fresh road cuts slow things down and route around the worst of it. If your trip did not catch Manakamana on the way out, the cable car at Kurintar sits conveniently at the halfway mark.

The drive itself mirrors the outbound with the light reversed: Annapurna behind you at breakfast, the Marsyangdi then the Trishuli beside you through the day. Drivers rotate their rest properly, and the same stop options apply, including Manakamana if the outbound missed it.
