Pokhara Adventure

Three days by the lake beneath the Annapurna range. Sarangkot sunrise, Phewa boating, caves and waterfalls, with time left to simply sit and look.

Duration 3 Days, 2 Nights
Tour type Private leisure tour
Group size 1 to 12
Best season Sep to May
Starts / ends Kathmandu / Kathmandu
Highest point 1,600 m at Sarangkot

Pokhara is where Nepal exhales. The Annapurna range stands close enough to fill the northern sky, Machhapuchhre’s fishtail summit at the center, and Phewa Lake mirrors all of it on a still morning.

This three day itinerary balances the classics with unscheduled time. You drive or fly in from Kathmandu, catch sunrise from Sarangkot when the peaks turn from grey to gold, row out to the Tal Barahi island temple, and walk up to the World Peace Pagoda for the long view back across the water.

Pokhara is also Nepal’s adventure capital. Paragliding from Sarangkot, ultralight flights and zip lines are all easy to add on the spot, and our team will book them with operators we trust. Prefer quiet? The lakeside cafes and the far shore trails ask nothing of you at all.

Getting there is part of the plan. The tourist bus is comfortable and scenic and takes most of a day each way. The 25 minute flight turns the same journey into a highlight, with the Annapurnas out the right side window on the way in. Many guests bus one way and fly the other, which balances cost and time well.

If you have one adjustment to make for Pokhara, make it early mornings. The mountains are sharpest before 9, the lake is calmest at dawn, and by late morning the haze softens everything. Sarangkot sunrise means a 5 a.m. start and it is worth every minute of it.

Pokhara is also the natural gateway for short treks. Ghandruk, Poon Hill and the Australian Camp loop all start within an hour of the lakeside. If your dates allow two extra days, ask us about adding a village night, it changes the trip.

Questions guests ask

Bus or flight, which should we choose?

The bus suits travelers with time and a wish to see the countryside, about 7 hours with breaks. The flight suits short itineraries, 25 minutes with mountain views. Flying one way is the popular middle path.

Is paragliding safe, and do I need experience?

Flights are tandem with licensed commercial pilots, no experience needed. We book only with operators we know, and flights cancel in unsuitable weather rather than push through it.

Will we actually see Machhapuchhre?

On clear mornings in season, yes, it dominates the skyline. Cloud can hide the range at any time of year, which is why the itinerary front loads viewpoints in the mornings.

Can Chitwan be combined with this tour?

Very naturally. Pokhara and Chitwan sit on the same circuit, and a 6 day Kathmandu, Pokhara, Chitwan loop is our most requested custom trip.
